More life drawing and understanding

While in the lesson I was shown to give the model balance and structure. this is done by lightly drawing a line down the centre of the figure at the start to show where they are balancing their weight. to get structure in perspective I was show that the human body can be broken down to a series of misshapen spheres and lines.

Tonality

This week was slightly more difficult to complete as we were all changed groups into Colour world, with 2 rules have it in a frame and  no colour.

this proved incurably frustrating due to a communication breakdown within the group, through no ones fault. leading us to come up with several differing idea of what the layout of the worlds locations. with me designing a rather industrial cityscape.14803028_1483287231701354_1955753352_o

these where more to get used to playing with artificial light which I am severally lacking in experience with. this took some time as doing and outline each and shading it would make up get absorbed within a singular picture and getting very little done over all, we decided to do each others shading to help speed this process along with great results.

This world is extremely dimly lit so it would have to be readable from a distance as the highlight is the sky.

Life drawings beginning

started life drawing by learning the fundamentals of perspective, this was incredible vital and done by drawing many boxes in different angles.

after drawing the blank boxes I got onto filling them in as buildings by attempting to draw the windows in the correct perspective

to help me better understand how two or more objects change perspective as the move along a scene Michael shoed me with this small sketch.

Characters

starting off with a bang by redesigning the planet that we were assigned with, to make it easier to assign characters to the theme.

To get started I sketched out many ideas to try seen which ones stuck.

for this we came up with the idea to make it have a slingshot orbit (as seen in one of Brian Cox documenters) to make each creature have 2 forms to give everyone plenty of opportunities to add in their own ideas. when eating a peach I saw that the pip would make a nice solid shape and structure when the planet is no in an orbit around sunlight, as the hard wooden shape looks nice when the plant grows out of it when it starts to grow.

when it came to the characters the actual characters it proved to be a very fun and experimental time. We set out on creating many idea loosely based on the concept of plants, trees and leaves, this was done as in a way were we would have to create 2 different types of creatures. The first creatures seen  above are the pre evolution, as the world would be going through a transformation the creatures would be small, tough and mostly made from wood with many twists.

This would be closer to real life as dead cold wood crakes over time and this happens most closer to the knots in the wood, this is why they are reference constantly.

these would be the creature in the process of breaking apart, so they would be slightly larger and more leaves would be showing. the subject in the centre would be a better example of the leaves bursting out of the small wooden creature, evolving it to the next stage of life.

to get inspired I started to look up how other artist have drawn creature using the same martial with fanatic results.

For the final creature I tried to show the growth by making them at least three times as big as their predecessors and more vertical. The last two were drawn by Lydia and I as a complete collaboration as I found matching the legs rather difficult and messed up with the scale, thankfully this wasn’t to was as it fixed the exact same problem she ran into.

Ideas for the world

I with 3 others people were given the to up at least 10 good words to gather other words, to try to come up with at least a somewhat original ideas for a world. after getting 80 we were clean out of ideas and started to come up with random words which had some relevance to the prevues string of disconnected ideas.

after getting close to 150 related words we voted on our favourites, with them we were able to get rough concepts of several different worlds. decided on a definite 5 conceptualised planets relating to the wall of random words.

I did a few sketches of my favourite world, which was mushrooms world.
